United States Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer declared on Wednesday that Senate Democrats have enough votes to halt the Republicans' spending bill, which was passed by the House of Representatives.
"Funding the government should be a bipartisan effort, but Republicans chose a partisan path, drafting their continuing resolution without any input from congressional Democrats. Because of that, Republicans do not have the votes in the Senate to invoke cloture on the House," he said while speaking on the Senate floor.
Instead of accepting this legislation, Schumer called on the Republicans in the Senate to make a deal with Democrats and create a short-term spending bill, with discussions for the long-term solution to continue.
