Senate backs Finland, Sweden's NATO memberships

The United States Senate passed a resolution ratifying Finland and Sweden's applications to join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

The legislation was approved in a 95-1 vote, with Republican Senator Josh Hawley casting the only vote against it.

The two countries applied to join NATO in May, less than two months after Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine.
