The United States Senate confirmed Rick Perry as the Secretary of Energy on Thursday, the Hill reported. Perry passed the vote with 62 votes to 37.
Perry, a former Texas governor and Republican presidential candidate, once stated that Energy Department should be eliminated. However, in his January confirmation hearing, Perry said he does not think the department should be abolished anymore.
Perry’s confirmation debate took only three hours in the full Senate, less than those of any other energy or environment official in the Trump cabinet.
Only two Trump cabinet nominees are yet to be confirmed: agriculture and labor.
