Senate okays railway labor deal, sends it to Biden

UNSPLASH / IAN HUTCHINSON

The United States Senate approved on Thursday the tentative railway labor agreement, preventing a possible strike that could've impaired economic activity across the country.

The legislation will now be forwarded to President Joe Biden, who is expected to sign the bill quickly. On the other hand, a separate vote on adding seven days of paid sick leave wasn't passed.

Railroad workers will receive 24% pay raises through 2024 and one more paid day off under the latest deal.
