The United States Senate Finance Committee voted on Tuesday to advance the nomination of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to be secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS).
The vote followed party lines, with 14 senators voting in favor and 13 voting against. Lousiana Senator Bill Cassidy, who was mentioned as possibly casting his vote against Kennedy, voted in favor.
Kennedy ran for president in the 2024 presidential election but dropped out of the race and endorsed the incumbent US President Donald Trump. He vowed to "make America healthy again" and reduce the influence of large pharmaceutical corporations on public health but faced criticism for his attitude toward vaccines.
