South Korea's former Chief of Naval Operations Admiral Sim Seung-seob (pictured) is supposedly "under strong consideration" to be named the country's new envoy to Australia, Yonhap reported Monday, citing an unnamed source.
The move comes three months after Lee Jong-sup, the former ambassador and defense minister, stepped down from his post, less than a month after he assumed the position, due to public uproar over his appointment that came despite him being subject to an investigation.
"Final arrangements" are underway to appoint Sim as the new envoy, according to the report.
