Serbian authorities have made several preventive arrests and heightened security in Belgrade following an attack on Israel's embassy in the nation's capital, which is now under investigation, Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said.
Earlier on Saturday, an unknown individual shot a gendarmerie member guarding the embassy with a crossbow, injuring him in the neck. The officer defended himself, resulting in the attacker's death.
The authorities suggested the attack may be linked to individuals associated with the Wahhabi movement, a conservative branch of Islam prevalent in Saudi Arabia. They did, however, note that more information will be provided as the investigation unfolds.
