Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic (pictured right) announced on Thursday an agreement with the French company Dassault Aviation SA to buy 12 Rafale fighter jets for €2.7 billion. The deal was announced during the visit of French President Emmanuel Macron (left) to Serbia.

Vucic said the acquisition will "significantly contribute to increasing the operational capabilities of our military." Meanwhile, Macron said the European Union and its member states " need a strong and democratic Serbia at their side and Serbia needs a strong and sovereign European Union," adding that Serbia's "place is in the EU."
