Coronavirus cases in Shanghai are likely to remain elevated for "some time," China's National Health Commission official Lei Zhenglong said on Tuesday.
"The epidemic is increasing rapidly, with the social transmission still not under effective control," he said during a press conference in Beijing, as translated by Global Times.
He went on to add that the lockdowns in place at the moment, as well as Beijing's Zero-COVID policy, are the best response to the crisis.
