United States tennis player Ben Shelton managed to come out victorious in his match against Italy's Lorenzo Sonego on Wednesday, passing through to the Australian Open semi-finals.
The US national managed to beat his opponent after a difficult match that lasted a little bit shy of 4 hours and finished in four sets with a score of 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4). "I feel relieved right now, shoutout to Lorenzo Sonego because that was some ridiculous tennis. I’m just really happy to be through, to get my first win on Rod Laver Arena. Thanks everybody for coming out, it was one of my favorite matches of my career," Shelton remarked during an in-court interview.
In the next round, he will be facing either Jannik Sinner, another Italian player, or Alex de Minaur of Australia. Should Shelton beat his next rival, this will be his first Grand Slam final.
