Shoygu: Ukrainian offensive slowed down

EPA-EFE/RUSSIAN DEFENCE MINISTRY PRESS SERVICE / HANDOUT

Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoygu said that Ukrainian military activity has slowed down after it suffered "significant losses" in both manpower and equipment since launching its offensive 16 days ago.

Speaking at a meeting of the Russian Security Council, the defense minister nevertheless warned that the Armed Forces of Ukraine are regrouping and still have the potential for further offensive operations, adding that losses in equipment supplied to Kiev mean that the remaining and planned deliveries this year will "not significantly affect the course of hostilities."

At the same meeting, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev estimated that Ukraine lost more than 13,000 military personnel in the offensive, while President Vladimir Putin said that it seems like "the Western allies of Ukraine really decided to fight Russia to the last Ukrainian."
