Sony to make autonomous driving sensor that uses 70% less power

Sony Group Corp. will design a next-generation self-driving sensor that consumes 70% less electricity, Nikkei Asia reported.

The company will pair its power-saving solution with new software to be developed by Japan's largest self-driving systems company, Tier IV.

In an attempt to lessen the impact of extreme weather conditions on electric vehicles' driving, Sony will also reportedly incorporate image recognition and radar technologies into its new sensor.
