The South Korean Health Ministry announced on Wednesday it would start offering the second COVID-19 booster vaccine shot to all citizens older than 60 years.
"The government plans to expand the fourth round of vaccination to those aged 60 and older," Health Minister Kwon Deok-cheol confirmed earlier today, stressing the virus spreading is still too high in this population. The eligibility for a fourth vaccine was so far applied only to sensitive and high-risk populations.
At the same time, the government will be looking at relaxing social distancing rules later this week amid a significant drop in daily infections.
