Southwest closes two crew bases in FL, TX

Southwest Airlines Co. announced on Tuesday its decision to close two crew bases in an effort to reduce costs.

The move will affect the premises at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida and Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in Texas and come into force on July 1. The airline did not confirm how many flight attendants will be impacted.

Previously, the company announced the layoff of about 15% of its corporate positions, or approximately 1,750 employees, to cut costs.
