United States President Donald Trump referred to William McKinley as the "tariff king," acknowledging his use of tariffs to bolster the economy during his presidency. Trump also noted his own record on tariffs, claiming to have outdone McKinley's achievements.

Speaking from the White House, Trump praised McKinley as a successful businessman, a dedicated governor of Ohio and a president who helped drive the nation's prosperity. He highlighted McKinley's role in a period of significant economic growth from 1870 to 1913.

As one of the first actions on his first day in office, Trump announced that Mount Denali will once again be named Mount McKinley, honoring the 25th US president.
