Electronic Arts Inc. (EA) said Wednesday in a memo to its employees that it will dismiss 5% of its workforce or around 670 employees and implement office space reductions as part of this year's strategy.

"We are continuing to optimize our global real estate footprint to best support our business […] We are also sunsetting games and moving away from the development of future licensed IP that we do not believe will be successful in our changing industry," CEO Andrew Wilson said in the document. The company will prioritize "biggest opportunities, including owned IP, sports, and massive online communities," he added.

On Tuesday, Sony, another player in the videogame industry, revealed a job cut of 8% of its PlayStation unit workforce
