Spain's Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albares and France's Foreign Ministry spokesman Christophe Lemoine voiced their opposition on Wednesday to US President Donald Trump's proposal to relocate Palestinians from Gaza to adjacent nations.
Albares pointed out during a press briefing that Gaza was "part of the future Palestinian State, which Spain is committed to." Meanwhile, Lemoine stated that Gaza's future should be envisioned within the framework of an independent Palestinian state and not fall under the control of a third country.
Trump presented his proposal at a joint press conference on Tuesday alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He announced that the US planned to manage the war-torn enclave and stimulate its economic growth after relocating Palestinians to other regions.
