Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez confirmed on Tuesday that Spain will meet NATO's 2% defense spending target this year, four years earlier than initially pledged.
Speaking at the Moncloa Palace, the leader said the accelerated timeline reflects his government's commitment to national and collective security. The Council of Ministers approved a €10.47 billion boost to defence expenditure, focusing on telecommunications, cybersecurity, and military procurement. The package forms part of a broader industrial and technological strategy aimed at strengthening Madrid's role within NATO and the European Union. The plan will be sent to Brussels and NATO headquarters on Wednesday for official assessment and approval.
