Spain's National Cryptologic Center (CCN), a division of the National Intelligence Center (CNI), responsible for overseeing the cybersecurity of government institutions, is currently investigating whether the extensive power failure impacting the peninsular power grid since early afternoon is the result of a cyber attack, according to El Pais on Monday.
The disruption has forced all rail traffic to stop, impacted air travel, caused interruptions in public transportation systems, and even led to traffic signals going dark in numerous areas.
Additionally, Spanish electricity grid operator Red Electrica said it is examining the incident's causes and confirms that power supply is gradually being restored in the northern and southern Peninsula, with impacts reaching as far as Portugal and Paris. The cause of the electrical outage remains unknown at this time.
