The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) is set to announce "precautionary measures" on Wednesday demanding that OpenAI Chief Executive Sam Altman's cryptocurrency iris-scanning project Worldcoin halts data collection of personal information in the country and stops the utilization of its already acquired data, the Financial Times reported citing agency's email.
Namely, the watchdog gave Worldcoin 72 hours to comply with its directive.
Altman's Worldcoin has faced ongoing scrutiny, with South Korea's Personal Information Protection Commission (PIPC) initiating an investigation into alleged privacy breaches this week, vowing to take action in accordance with relevant laws and regulations. France, Germany, and the United Kingdom also launched their respective investigations into Worldcoin's data collection last year.
