Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Thursday in Ho Chi Minh City that the US decision to pause new global tariffs "opens a door to negotiation" and could lead to an agreement. He described the initial tariff move as "unjustified, unjust and harmful for everybody," and stressed that "no one wins in a trade war."
Sanchez emphasized that Spain is reacting "swiftly and in coordination with our European partners," adding, "not a single [regional] company will be left out in the cold."
The comments come ahead of his visit to China today and tomorrow, where he will meet President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang. According to diplomatic sources, talks will cover the war in Ukraine, bilateral economic ties, and China's role in the global order. This is Sanchez's third visit to China since 2023 and the first by a European leader since US President Donald Trump unveiled the tariff measures
