Starbucks Corp. will lay off 1,100 employees worldwide, media reported on Monday citing an internal letter sent to employees by CEO Brian Niccol. The cuts will affect corporate employees, who will be notified tomorrow.

"Our intent is to operate more efficiently, increase accountability, reduce complexity and drive better integration," Niccol said in the letter, adding that the layoffs are necessary for the company's future success. "Our size and structure can slow us down, with too many layers, managers of small teams and roles focused primarily on coordinating work."
