British Prime Minister Keir Starmer emphasized on Monday that the imposition of "25% tariffs on automotive exports and 10% on other goods" represented a "huge challenge for our future."
"Because we've got to rise together as a nation to the great challenge of our age, and it is the great challenge of our age. Which is to renew Britain so we are stable in this era of global instability," Starmer said in the West Midlands. "Nobody wins from a trade war. You know that, but it's also a moment for urgency."
Earlier, he promised "bold changes" to electric vehicle regulations, easing restrictions on electric cars (EVs) in response to United States President Donald Trump's 25% levy on all vehicle imports to the US. Furthermore, requirements placed on automobile manufacturers during their transition away from gasoline and diesel vehicle production will be reduced to prevent potential penalties.
