The United States State Department gave the green light to a potential $200 million sale of military vehicles to Egypt on Wednesday.

The approval comes in response to Egypt's request to purchase additional light tactical vehicle chassis and fleet build from Washington. According to the Department of Defense, the principal contractor will be AM General LLC, an American heavy vehicle manufacturer.

"This proposed sale will support US foreign policy and national security objectives by helping to improve the security of a Major Non-NATO Ally that continues to be an important force for political stability and economic growth in the Middle East," the Pentagon said in the statement.
