United States State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller disclosed on Tuesday that Moscow rejected Washington's proposal for the release of Wall Street Journal correspondent Evan Gershkovich and former American marine Paul Whelan who have been "wrongfully" detained in Russia.
During the regular press briefing, the State Department spokesperson however declined to clarify the details of Washington's proposal and whether it included an offer for a prisoner exchange with Russia in turn for the release of the American nationals.
A Moscow court previously extended the detention of the Wall Street Journal reporter until the end of January 2024.
