EPA/LARRY W. SMITH

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said on Wednesday that automotive giant Stellantis will recall 131,700 Ram 1500 pickup trucks over a powertrain software issue.

The vehicle version produced in 2021 for the United States market will be affected by the recall, the NHTSA's website revealed, explaining it was determined that the trucks with 5.7-liter HEMI V8 eTorque engines could stall based on 53 filed field reports.

Dealers will update the software free of charge. The announcement comes after Stellantis recalled 340,000 Ram trucks in February over a separate issue.
