NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Monday that there are no plans for a battlegroup or permanent bases in Sweden, which joined the alliance last week. He also said NATO does not plan to expand the number of allies in possession of nuclear weapons.

Stoltenberg praised the "high-end, first-class" nature of Sweden's defense capabilities and pointed out that Sweden spends more than 2% of its GDP on defense, which is NATO's spending target. He said Swedish troops are already participating in NATO's ongoing military exercise, which is the alliance's "biggest since the Cold War."
