NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg warned on Friday that war between Ukraine and Russia would lead to more destruction and death in the upcoming days.

"The days to come are likely to be worse, with more deaths, more suffering, and more destruction," Stoltenberg told reporters in Brussels, urging Russian President Vladimir Putin to order the withdrawal of military forces and put a stop to the armed conflict without conditions.

Commenting on NATO's role in the conflict, Stoltenberg asserted the alliance will ensure the fighting doesn't spread beyond the Ukrainian territory. NATO won't send its planes or troops to Ukraine, he concluded.
