Former President of Sudan Omar al-Bashir (pictured) has been put under house arrest by his country's military, the Defense Minister Ahmed Awad Ibn Auf announced on local state TV. The minister also announced the creation of a military council that is planned to rule the country for the next two years.
CNN reported earlier that Sudan's Prime Minister Mohamed Taher Ayala and the head of the ruling National Congress Party, Ahmed Haroun, are among dozens of officials to be arrested on Thursday morning. Meanwhile, all political detainees will be released, announced Sudanese Intelligence Agency.
The European Union has called for a peaceful and civilian transitional government in the African country.
