The Sudanese army and the paramilitary group Rapid Support Forces (RSF) inked an agreement on Thursday intended to safeguard Sudanese civilians following recent escelation of tensions in the region, Al Arabiya reported citing United States senior officials.
However, the US official made it clear that this arrangement is not recognized as a "ceasefire" and instead falls under the warring parties' international law responsibility to "create space for humanitarian aid to operate."
The Saudi-brokered deal will assure the withdrawal of forces from hospitals and clinics, as well as the delivery of humanitarian aid, according to a State Department official, who stressed that the two warring sides are "quite far apart" regarding a truce.
