United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan (pictured) on Thursday noted a shift in Hamas' position in the negotiations following the agreed ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon.
"For months, Hamas was waiting for lots of other actors and forces to come to their rescue, and when we got that ceasefire, it was clear that the northern front had been decoupled from Gaza, and from that moment forward we had a different character to the negotiations," Sullivan stressed during the press conference in Jerusalem, adding that the change in Hamas' posture could help "close" this negotiations between the militant group and Israel.
Sullivan defended Israel's move into the Syria buffer zone, arguing that it aligns with its right to self-defense.
