United States National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan said on Wednesday that President Joe Biden is "confident" that the country can avoid default on its debt, underlining that the president decided to cut his Asia tour short in order to "make sure that happens."

"He is going to do what a president does, which is pull the relevant parties together to get to a deal that produces a positive outcome," Sullivan stressed. "The final stretch of negotiations over the debt limit or over the budget cannot be done at a later date, and that default can't be postponed, but the trip can be postponed," he added.
