United Kingdom's outgoing Prime Minister Rishi Sunak officially resigned from his role on Friday after the Conservative Party suffered a crushing defeat from the Labour Party.
"I'm sorry," Sunak said during a press conference, adding that although he gave his all, the public has "sent a clear signal that the government of the United Kingdom must change." He once again took responsibility for the fall of Tories, underlining that he heard "the anger [and] the disappointment" of the voters. He called his successor, Sir Keir Starmer, "a decent, public-spirited man."
Sunak also confirmed that he will be stepping down as the Conservative Party leader. "Following this result, I will step down as party leader, not immediately, but once the formal arrangements for selecting my successor are in place," he detailed.
