Super Micro Computer Inc. (SMCI) plans to expand its United States server production as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) grows, CEO Charles Liang said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal.
Super Micro, based in San Jose, already makes most of its servers in California and recently announced a third campus there. However, according to Liang, the company may build facilities in Mississippi and Texas to lower costs compared to Silicon Valley.
Liang noted that while AI investment is growing fast, high US production costs and outdated infrastructure still pose challenges. "America has not done production for about 30 years, so its infrastructure and people are not accustomed to manufacturing jobs anymore," he was cited as saying.
