One of the two men arrested by counterintelligence agents in Istanbul has hanged himself in detention, local media reported. They have both purportedly admitted during interrogation to spying for the United Arab Emirates.
The police and the National Intelligence Organization (MIT), which conducted the operation, are looking into the suspects' possible links to the murder of Saudi dissident and journalist Jamal Khashoggi in Istanbul seven months ago. The government in Riyadh changed several times the official version of the crime that happened in its consulate, while Turkish authorities allege the killing was orchestrated by state officials.
