Mediterranean Shipping Company S.A, branded as MSC, confirmed Tuesday that the container ship MSC United VII was attacked at 12:25 UTC while traveling from King Abdullah Port, Saudi Arabia to Karachi, Pakistan in the Red Sea.
The company said in a statement that no crew members were injured and a "thorough assessment of the vessel is being conducted." During the attack, the commercial vessel informed a close warship and proceeded to "evasive maneuvers."
"Our first priority remains protecting the lives and safety of our seafarers, and until their safety can be ensured MSC will continue to reroute vessels booked for Suez transit via the Cape of Good Hope," it added.
