Swiss unemployment rate at 2.9% in May

The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in Switzerland stood at 2.9% in May, according to a report released on Thursday by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). The figure was slightly higher than 2.8% observed in April.

The number of unemployed people in Switzerland was 127,944, declining by 2,157 people or 1.7% from April. Compared to May 2024, unemployment jumped by 22,479 people or 21.3%. The youth unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage points compared to the previous month to land at 2.4%, or 10,626 people.

The number of available jobs in May in Switzerland was 38,142, down by 2,745 compared to April.
