Syria's President Ahmed al-Sharaa announced an "immediate" ceasefire after recent sectarian clashes near Sweida, a Druze-majority city.
Al-Sharaa said the ceasefire aimed to protect civilians and safeguard Syria's unity. Al-Sharaa urged all groups to respect the truce and stop fighting. The Syrian leader also thanked Turkey, the United States and Arab countries for supporting Syria during this period.
The announcement comes after authorities began deploying security forces to the region.
