The number of people who died in the earthquake that hit Syria and Turkey earlier this week surpassed 33,000 on Sunday, according to local authorities.
Turkey reported 29,605 deaths, with over 90,000 injuries as a consequence of the disaster, while the death toll in Syria is at least 3,500.
Turkish authorities started investigations into the construction of thousands of buildings that collapsed in the earthquake and issued detention orders for over 100 suspects, the country's Vice President Fuat Oktay revealed earlier in the day.
