Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said on Monday that his country will not participate in the Germany-led and proposed purchase of the United States' Patriot defense system by the European Union on behalf of Ukraine.
"I would like to emphasize that Hungarian money, Hungarian weapons, and Hungarian soldiers will not be sent to Ukraine. Nothing will be sent there," Szijjarto said at a press conference in Budapest following a meeting with Moroccan Industry and Trade Minister Ryad Mezzour.
Furthermore, Szijjarto expressed hope that sending Patriot systems to Ukraine will not affect US President Donald Trump's effort to solve the conflict there peacefully. "I can only say that no one has done as much for peace in Ukraine as Trump. And if European and Ukrainian leaders had not obstructed Donald Trump in recent months, these peace efforts could have been far more successful," he insisted.
