Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto thanked United States President Donald Trump on Sunday for lifting some of the sanctions against Russia that blocked the construction of the Paks II nuclear power plant.
"The US has lifted sanctions that blocked construction of the Paks II nuclear plant. These politically motivated measures were imposed by the Biden admin just before [Trump] took office. Grateful to the Trump admin, as this project will guarantee our future energy supply," Szijjarto said in a post on X.
The Hungarian minister previously said that he would ask Washington to lift some of its sanctions against Russia, which he described as "detrimental" to Hungary, as they prevented Russian investments in the Hungarian nuclear industry and disrupted the construction of the new nuclear power plant in the Hungarian town of Paks.
