Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited (TSMC) intends to manufacture 6-nanometer chips in Japan, Nikkei Asia reported on Thursday.

The production site in Kumamoto, on the island of Kyushu in southwestern Japan, is currently under construction and the chips produced there will be the "most advanced products to be made in the country," according to the report.

The Japanese Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry is expected to provide subsidies for the plant in the government's upcoming fiscal stimulus package. The ministry is considering allocating ¥900 billion ($6 billion) for the facility which will require an investment of ¥2 trillion, the media outlet noted.
