The Taiwan Stock Exchange has announced plans to hold a press briefing to alleviate concerns among investors, as reported by Reuters on Monday morning.
Today's downturn comes on the heels of a significant sell-off last Friday, which saw Tokyo's Nikkei 225 plummet by 5.18%. The average share price of Nikkei has now dropped by 12.24% or 4,417 points, to its lowest level since November 2023, while Taiwan's stock exchange has experienced an 8% decline. Notably, major trading companies such as Mitsubishi, Mitsui and Co, Sumitomo, and Marubeni have all suffered losses exceeding 10%, effectively wiping out six months' worth of gains in a matter of days.
Furthermore, the yen has also strengthened against the dollar, reaching its highest point since January and currently trading at 143.40.
