The Russian Supreme Court authorized on Thursday the ruling that the Taliban be removed from the country's list of banned terrorist organizations, which the State Duma previously passed.
Russia still does not recognize the Taliban as Afghanistan's official government; however, it has expressed willingness to develop diplomatic relations with it after the organization took over the country following the United States' withdrawal in 2021.
Meanwhile, Taliban Political Office Head Suhail Shaheen praised Russia's decision to RIA Novosti, calling it "rational" and "extremely necessary for expanding cooperation and strengthening relations between the two countries."
