Telecom glitch disrupts Newark air traffic, FAA says

EPA/JASON SZENES

The US Federal Aviation Administration confirmed on Sunday that a telecommunications issue at Philadelphia Terminal Radar Approach Control (TRACON) briefly disrupted Newark Liberty International Airport flights.

The incident slowed air traffic while ensuring backup systems functioned correctly. The problem originated in Area C of the TRACON facility, which oversees Newark's airspace.

The FAA did not specify the nature of the failure but emphasized that the precautionary ground stop was short-lived. "Operations have returned to normal," the agency said, directing passengers and airlines to fly.faa.gov for updates.
