Tesla settles over fatal car crash case blamed on Autopilot

Tesla Inc. reached a settlement over the 2018 death of a former Apple Inc. engineer whose Tesla car veered off a highway in Northern California, a court filing showed on Monday.

The Autopilot, a driver-assistance system, failed to recognize a "faded and nearly obliterated" lane line, causing Walter Huang's vehicle to steer into a highway barrier near Mountain View, California. Tesla stated that its Autopilot feature is designed to be used in areas with "clear lane markings."

The filing did not disclose the details of the settlement.
