A third oil storage tank exploded on Monday at the Matanzas oil storage facility in Cuba, local authorities said.

The fire, which started last Friday, was triggered by a lightning strike on the structure of one of the tanks, causing a blaze that could not be controlled and causing a massive cloud of smoke that spread across the western part of the country.

The worst accident of this type in the island's history has already left one dead, 16 missings, and 122 injured. So far, technical assistance has been received from Mexico and Venezuela. The US authorities are also in contact with the Cuban government for possible technical cooperation.
