TikTok pledges to align with EU customer rules

The European Commission stated on Tuesday that ByteDance's social platform TikTok committed to aligning its practices with the European Union's customer protection rules.

"We welcome TikTok's commitment to more transparency in the way it operates its business activity. Thanks to our dialogue, consumers will be able to spot all kinds of advertisements they are exposed to when using this platform," Justice Commissioner Didier Reynders noted in an official statement.

TikTok's pledge follows discussions with EU consumer protection agencies that determined the social media platform failed to protect children from hidden advertising and inappropriate content. The Consumer Protection Cooperation Network will continue monitoring these commitments, the statement concluded.
