EPA-EFE/JUSTIN LANE

One of Goldman Sachs Group Inc.'s top executives, co-head of Global Banking and Markets Jim Esposito, will be resigning, The Wall Street Journal reported on Monday citing sources with knowledge of the matter.

The sources revealed that Esposito had aspirations to take over as the company's CEO. However, it would be difficult to achieve this as current CEO David Solomon indicated to the firm's leading executives that he has no plans to leave his post anytime soon, according to the sources.

Esposito joined the company back in 1995 and has served it for almost 30 years.
