Toyota Motor Co.'s Hino Motors Ltd. and Daimler Truck AG's subsidiary Mitsubishi Fuso Truck and Bus are nearing the closure of a merger agreement, Nikkei reported on Monday.
According to the media outlet, the two businesses plan to make a holding company for the truck units, with the aim of putting it on the Tokyo Stock Exchange's Prime market in April 2026.
Nikkei added that the two subsidiaries and their parent companies are trying to survive amid rising competition from China and the United States' shifting trade policies.
